Geoff & Jacqui, our good friends from the Langham Hotel

I have asked Geoff and Jacqui to write this section themselves, so over to them...

We first visited Take Care School in November 2006 during our first stay in Gambia. Initially we just went on a visit to donate stationary which we had brought with us from England. After meeting Bakary and seeing for ourselves the good work they had started we felt compelled to help the children more. We raise money with the help of our wonderful guests who donate to this worthy cause year after year. Last year we even raised money with a sponsored skydive.

The money raised by us and our guests has so far help Bakary to build two toilet blocks, classrooms (some of which now need to be rebuilt following consecutive heavy rainy seasons), new play equipment and a well, which is also used by the by the local villagers. Bakary has replaced all of the windows to improve light and ventilation, and started to properly level the floors in all the classrooms. Some of the money we have raised has also been used to put the teaching staff through teacher training, and also goes towards the teachers wages and general running costs.

In November 2015 we bought the school a laptop computer and arranged for this website to be created. Our regular guests love to see how their donations are being put to good use by reading the notices we display in the lounge at the hotel. We would hope they would also check the website to allow them to feel closer to the work they have helped with.

Over the years it has been lovely to watch the children grow and the school flourish and we are looking forward to offering more help in the years to come. To paraphrase the Take Scare School motto, the greatest way out of poverty is education.
